    • Abstract:
Elder self-neglect is included is the elder abuse focus of Adult Protective Services, but increasingly there is a research and practice movement to separate it into a distinct phenomenon that has yet to find conceptual or definitional clarification. Mental health intervention is very important in order to address elder neglect, but there are unresolved barriers to its use. To advance practitioner understanding and draw interventions into the rapidly changing elder healthcare landscape, the author suggests exploring self-neglect from a self-care framework that can be applied effectively within an integrated primary health care approach.
