- Abstract:
This article presents self-help steps in treating sport injuries such as strains and sprains. Though rest, ice, compression, and elevation is a good first aid, it is not a substitute for a doctor's exam. For the next 48 hours, or until the symptoms/pain go away, avoid strenuous activities that could cause swelling, pain, or discomfort. Use an ice pack or a bag of frozen veggies on the site of the injury to reduce swelling and inflammation. Elevate the injured limb to drain excess fluid and reduce swelling.
