The article discusses diabetics' use of do-it-yourself (DIY) insulin pump treatments through use of smartphone apps and blood glucose monitoring systems, including diabetic patient Kate Farnsworth's DIY approach to treating diabetes. It compares the self-care model of DIY diabetics with insulin products offers by the pharmaceutical company Medtronic Plc., including in regard to cost differences.
