The article discusses a trend in medical care that allows patients to participate in the decision making processes of their treatment plans. Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center provides patients with education and then allows them to make a selection from several treatment options. The author comments that when a patient is well informed they may make different decisions than doctors, and select cheaper treatments.
